I am really impressed with whomever did this. Here's the list of schools, as the buses could drive that are closer to the bus stop than MCK: I was wrong...
1. ATS .4
2. Glebe .9
3. Barrett 1.2
4. Reed 1.3 miles.
5. Ashlawn 1.4
6. ASFES 1.5 miles
7. McK 1.7

That is very selfish.
And you’re admitting that most people prefer to go to a nearby school. You are really the exception.
Meh. No more selfish than the odd numbered zipcodes have been for decades. I’ll take mine, thanks.
So don’t b1tch about it 24x7 on DCUM then, ‘kay?
Ha! Why don’t you start another thread here wringing your hands about Nottingham, Jamestown, Tuckahoe, McKinley, ASF, Key.... you aholes
Couldn’t stfu if you tried. Just watching from the sidelines, It’s not even that entertaining anymore. Just draining.
Must be draining to be outraged 24x7. And then realize that you are no better yourself.
Not outraged at all. Gonna have access to one of your schools in a few months. I’m good.
OK? It's not a contest.
And if you aren't outraged then try to keep your obnoxious comments to yourself.
Oh, it’s definitely a contest. The loser’s school is going bye bye. I’m not sure I’d worked up enough to involve my congressman, but you guys always go big. Can’t take that away from you.
DP, but do you hear yourself?

They are accounting for this, the current timeline includes reviewing enrollment projections again in the Fall of 2020 to see if they need to make any boundary adjustments for the following school year when Reed opens.
Do you think APS will bus kids PAST Reed to McK? that little sliver of homes at the furthest point east is thinking that will happen but that's just TOO Illogical, right?
It depends where the option schools wind up. I Nottingham or Tuckahoe become option, I think it will happen. And it will be illogical. The only way this makes sense to me is if Reed is the option school. Kids around Reed can fan out to the school closest to them because Reed is in the central part of the NW Quadrant. But once it opens as a neighborhood school everyone else will have to work around it to fill McKinley. Again, stupid. And why all schools should be on the table.

Silly me thought I could send my kids to the neighborhood school 2 blocks to my house. Can someone please explain to me why the option programs are preferable to having kids attend a neighborhood school and allow transfers in from overcrowded schools?
When I moved here, I thought my children would go to the school 4 blocks from my house. Nope, option. We only looked at a map which does not designate such things. THen, we though kids would go to the one 1 mile away. Nope, not the one 1.2 m away, or 1.4. No, our kids are bussed to a school 2 miles away when 5 FIVE are closer.
APS loves to waste money
Where are you, near ATS? The only school that was 100% option with no neighborhood preferences and exclusively lottery was ATS. How long ago did you buy a house? Because it had to be before the interwebs if all you looked at was a map to figure out where your child would enroll in school. And also, your agent must have stunk, too.
My guess is OP is near ATS and bused to McKinley, and is exaggerating when she says there are five elementary schools closer to her (because there's no place that fits that criteria). It's kind of a dumb complaint, though, because once ATS wasn't an option, any one of the other schools she mentioned would have also put her kids on a bus. Maybe the extra .6 of a mile was a bridge too far. Heaven forbid.
Meant PP, not OP.
Anonymous wrote:No PP but there are five elementary schools closer to my house than the one we attend (McK). Discovery, Nottingham, Tuckahoe, ATS and Glebe are all closer...in some cases much closer.
