I was wrong. Both the ES and MS sent out a letter. My husband received them.

• A baseball coach pleaded guilty to the charge of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a person under 18 years of age. The charges did not involve any MCPS students and did not occur at an MCPS facility. (Community Message)
• A building service worker was arrested and charged with second-degree sex offense involving a MCPS student at the school where he was employed. The charge subsequently was dismissed. (Community Letter)
• A teacher, who also served as a field hockey coach, received a criminal citation and pleaded guilty to furnishing alcohol to a minor, who was a student at the school where the teacher was employed. (Community Message)

And yet, the Superintendent sent an email / communication to every single parent in the system saying what MCPS found out. And the county wide PTA is running posts on Facebook updating people about what schools he has been in there, and LISTING EXACT dates. As they pour through more records, they add more info.

Here in MCPS? Crappy form letters to each school 3 days after the arrest. I got the Pyle one, my son at Pyle says he had this guy last year as a sub, which means my other kid who is now at Whitman could have been in contact with him too......think Whitman sent a letter? NOPE.....I emailed the principal and he said central office makes that call, he can not.

So.....Howard County= proactive, transparent, trauma informed. MCPS - head in sand, nothing to see here, fend for yourselves while we protect our reputation.

This is true. If anyone in the system suspects abuse/suspicious behavior, we must call CPS. But after that call, we're done. However, speaking from experience - mine and colleagues' experiences - CPS is pretty much worthless. Or, like teachers, they're overworked.

So I don't expect much of this system regarding safety b/c it's too big to monitor. Therefore, I make sure that my own children know to be vigilant, which means when these ugly cases surface, we talk about them.

Yes. You should talk with your daughter. Did she see anything? Did anyone touch her? She may have information that the police need to know.

Are they only sending the message to schools he was at? We also didn't get an email from our principal.

Principals were provided with the email and instructed not to send md out until the evening, I believe 7 pm.

He subbed at my children’s school and I have met him there. He was ‘wierd’, as my child said, and I would agree very socially awkward. I spoke with him a number of times. We did not see any concerning behavior for abuse but it’s not shocking either.
