Yes, in some ways, the issues are worse. Schools with too many kids from wealthy families and those with too many kids from poor families have issues that are different sides of the same coin.
And in many ways, they are not. Wealth brings certain issues, lack of it brings another set of issues. Pick your poison.

I'm always struck by the implicit assumption on DCUM that all students from rich families care about education. Some kids from poor families do, some kids from poor families don't, but all kids from rich families do. That's not my personal experience.
I think it's just statistics. Of course, there are those on both sides who don't fit the stereotype.
Many low income schools, especially in the non honor/AP classes, have issues with disruptive students. That doesn't mean that wealthy schools don't have such students but it's just less, at least outwardly. Conversely, there are "poor' students who value education, and there are those wealthy students who don't.
I grew up on the lower income side in a lower income school, and I took both AP and "regular" classes. My AP classes almost never had disruptive students because this is a self selecting group of students who want to do well in school. In the regular classes, you had several students who didn't care and were quite disruptive.

I agree with this. OP, beyond high school ratings, what are you looking for in terms of community, housing, commute, etc? Schools are important but I think there are more factors to consider and perhaps we can help give you a better feel for each of the communities within the two clusters.

I'm always struck by the implicit assumption on DCUM that all students from rich families care about education. Some kids from poor families do, some kids from poor families don't, but all kids from rich families do. That's not my personal experience.

My original concern still applies...why does Rockville only have 36% of kids that meet Univ. of Maryland entry requirements and RM have 64%? Looking into all the Rockville elementary feeder schools it appears that only one of them (Barnesley) offers compacted 4/5 and compacted 5/6 math. It seems like all the feeder elementary schools at RM do offer those. Is that a big factor? Again, my kids are still in lower elementary but are doing quite well in math and I expect at least 1 of them to need access to the higher levels of math.
Rock Creek Valley also offers compacted math. Its much smaller than Barnsley too.
