I actually am a real kid who got accepted into Walls for SY 24-25.
And if there's any 8th grader in DC out there or anyone really who's reading this and wants to know what the process was like, I'll list some of the things that happened and I will be truthful about advice.
This is around the time all applications should be submitted. It was really strange and it felt sort of chaotic on Walls part because I had only found out about my interview 2 days prior to me having it, so it didn't give me much time to prepare. One thing i will say is that Walls will provide you with a list of an idea of the questions they will ask. you should DEFINITELY practice or at least have an idea of something you will say for each category. Practicing helped me a TON, practice with different people: your friends, teachers, counselors, etc. It will seriously help. But don't overdo it to the point where your responses sound scripted.
It's normal to be nervous- I was so scared and super anxious. We got there early so some students at Walls were sort of walking around and answering any questions we had. Then we got called to our rooms. The interview is supposed to be about 10 min long. I got a really nice teacher and there was also a student who both took turns asking questions. There were 3 questions total. Since I had practiced the questions given the general themes, i got pretty lucky and was prepared on what I was going to say. You're going to feel nervous at first, but trust me, once you're actually talking and flowing out your ideas it's going to seem so natural. and EXPAND on your answers, that's super important. I felt confident on my interview because the teacher had told me my responses were very good and in-depth. Next, you go into a room for your essay. Not everyone is given the same prompt, and you have around 30 minutes to do it if I recall correctly. And that was literally all. Whole thing took like 30 minutes in total. And I currently go to walls. It's a pretty solid school except for the overwhelming amount of Deal kids, and the whole school being predominately white can be unsettling to those who come from diverse schools.

anyways, good luck to everyone who gets interviewed!

Last year we heard on 2/20 and were “assigned” the first interview date of 2/24.

Hi all, going through the admissions process now. Around when would Walls reach out about being selected for an interview (if my child is selected)?

We had a similar situation last year and were able to reschedule the interview to the later date.

When do you find out if your child got to the interview stage (the top 500)? In Feb? First interview day is 2/24 and am wondering when we would know if our son got an interview.
This is a question for families who have already been through the interview process--

Once families are notified of their interview date, is there an option to reschedule for the other date (March 2nd)? We had booked a trip for February break before Walls announced the interview dates for this year, so we won't be in town on Feb. 24th.
