Emerson? The entering class is above average from a non-DCUM standpoint, but average from a DCUM standpoint and similar to how OP described her student.
Friend's child who was not very academically focused in high school is there and thriving wonderfully, very excited by his classes and studying hard and making the Dean's List.

Our FCPS IB school gives out plenty of Cs. My full IB diploma student who works her butt off has two right now. I would venture to say that in our school, the As are much more rare than the Cs. And failure to turn things in results in Ds and Fs.

Whitman. My kid just got one.


Several of DD's friends, who are very high-achieving academically and in the top 5% of the class or so, ended up with a semester grade of C in AP physics at Whitman last year and the year before. Several others squeaked out a B at the end. There is indeed grade inflation in the county, but few kids at Whitman who take the most rigorous schedule possible end up with all As.

Are you mad - Pitzer is a top college in CA. People on DCUM have no idea what average is. You know a kid who gets good grades, does activities, gets a 23 on the ACT - where does that kid go - somewhere average -


You wouldn't have to report the 23 since they're testing optional. If you're a good fit for the sort of student they're seeking, you could definitely get in with the profile described.
Still not happening.
OP asked for an up and coming school, not an average school, where a student with average credentials could be admitted now that they wouldn't be later. Pitzer IS a great school- I acknowledged that with their good rankings.

I've heard that too. Just looked at Naviance for our MD 'W" HS and the last to classes (2016 and 2017) shows and admit rate of 36% (14/39).
Wonder what is going on there.
