This, and just in the recent decade it has permeated into the MILF and Cougars. Women are now more than EVER expected to be "sex kittens" well into middle age. However, we women do it to ourselves. We objectify ourselves and then cry boo-hoo when men no longer know how to act around us. So many mixed message.
I think women need to take a hard look in the mirror to find the answers.
My god what is with some women and this anti-attractive obsession. Is it an excuse for not being as successful as you had hoped or fat women jealous? Really, I dont get it. Women in the US do not put in anywhere near the effort in their appearance of women in other most Europe or Latin American, not even close. Stop making excuses and focus on high earning fields.
Actually I speak from experience, at least the experience of a high SES woman who steps right into the pitfalls. I'm 45 and feel immense pressure to keep up. It is exhausting. There certainly are women out there who say f*ck it and don't bother and in a way I really admire them.
In order to remain a size 6 at 45, I'm borderline exercise obsessed, I watch every bite of food that goes into my mouth, I dye my hair every 5 weeks, I work hard to keep my hair long AND healthy, I spend a small fortune on well fitting clothes that are slightly trendy, but not too trendy that it makes me look like I'm in the midst of a mid-life crisis, I've had my boobs lifted and enhanced, I avoid the sun like the plague, and have a treasure chest of cosmetics and creams...it is an uphill battle. Many of the women in my peer group do just the same, some have had elective c-sections to spare their vagina and then all the tucks afterwards, many do botox and fillers, and some have moved into blepharoplasty as the eyes have gotten puffier and the lids have started to droop.
You wrote the solution to your problem, and then you just kept writing. Own your decisions. If you want look frumpy, do it.

I’m the pp who said I hope he doesn’t have a wife or daughters. I actually have a stem degree and a fantastic career. The fact a male comes on here and stars talking about “womens studies” doesn’t even warrant a response about the wage gap and inequality at home. So I responded about something else - that I hope he doesn’t have any close female relatives or a girlfriend.

I'm the mother, and I have a demanding career. My husband has a less demanding career, so he's the default parent. Our children (boys) are being raised in a home where they are expected to clean up after themselves. They know how to cook. They know how to do laundry and put clothes away. They help with yard work.
Most importantly: they know I'm not the maid. And they know that we don't have a maid, so we're all responsible for pitching in to maintain the house.

Why because I think logically and realistically? (so do the study authors, they also said women have to start getting into STEM) I do have daughters and a wife, we use logic. You keep operating off your "feels" and you will always have something to complain about.

Do people really think like this??
Women could receive 100 percent of the STEM diplomas and there’d still be a wage gap as long as women are responsible for bearing children and there isn’t paid maternity leave and equality at home to keep them in the workforce or on the same trajectory as men.
This is why you have countries like Japan with low birth rates and the US where most babies are born to uneducated single women.
And majoring in womens studies resolves the issues you list how? People do think like this, so does the World Economic Forum that published the study, in fact they said it.
You assumptions are just that assumptions and they are wrong. Maternity leave is very common in tech companies and if it weren't it would have virtually no effect on the wage gap overall. "Equality" at home? Are you serious, that is an individual issue to be sorted out by people in their household.
As for you demographics explain Europe where maternity leave is common and the birth rate is lower than the US. Womens (and mens) career fields and occupation are the single largest contributor to income differences. If 100% of STEM degrees went to women it would make a big difference in the gap and be great for everyone.
