I'm glad my DS is not alone. He scored above grade level for iready language arts test and decently on the WISC VCI, but had a very unimpressive CogAT verbal. He actually scored lower than his older sister, despite being MUCH stronger with language arts compared to where she was in 2nd grade.

she had 117 in her previous Cogat and 124 now which is not bad. but need forum advise on WISC because i think presenting materials might not work.

What do her teachers think? Is she performing above grade level in all subjects? She might get in with a very high GBRS and a 124 composite. If you don't anticipate a very high GBRS, then you should expect to need a WISC. WISC is supposed to be taken without prep.

My kid is in a similar boat, but I knew before receiving the scores that it would be bad. He told me right after taking the verbal part that in one of the sections, he had a bubbling error and ended up offset with the teacher. We have no idea how many problems this affected. At least he more than made up for it with his other two scores. Also, keep in mind that the verbal section is still purely picture-based, so if your child struggles with comprehending what the picture is trying to show, then she might do poorly.

Why do you think you'll need to appeal. Generally, in-pool CogAT + decent GBRS = IN

There's no pool for 3rd grade. With those scores, it will mostly depend on teacher recommendation, work samples, and GBRS. Was she principal placed in a LLIV classroom? If so, and if she's doing well there, she has a stronger case for being accepted into AAP.

You can parent refer - you will likely get rejected the first round. Get the WISC done and if it's very strong, appeal the rejection.

22152 - We just got the in-pool letter and Cogat scores in DC's backpack.

Got pool letter week back. No Cogat scores yet. FCPS's timing and release of information is all over the calendar. We are in Fairfax.
