This is such a sick response. A school is not just the administration. A lot of good people, good teachers and good kids are in this school. And are working hard on it. This whole thread is a lot of nonsense. I’m sorry you feel personally hurt by this situation but wishing a school to crash and burn is just sad.

I find this whole story deeply chilling. Not only because these children have been harmed for life--sadly, stories of child victims of abuse are not, as some here point out, uncommon in settings like schools and camps. Instead, what I find so upsetting is how many adults abdicated any kind of responsibility for protecting kids after pursuing roles as educators. Why were these kids put back into a classroom with this man, even after the first investigation didn't turn up sufficient evidence?? Wouldn't any reasonable administrator think it made sense to put them in a different one after there was clearly _something_ awry?

What's more, the whole point of charter schools is that they operate outside the regular system, supposedly with flexibility to hire and fire at will. Retaining abusive teachers is something frequently blamed on teachers unions, though this school faced no such constraint. Instead, because it has to maintain its image to attract families, it appears they circled the wagons and protected this guy. As for those saying it's now safer than ever since lightning won't strike twice, I'd be concerned that the board and any other administrators would be even _more_ inclined to hush up any bad behavior lest it cause more bad PR. There is a lot of harmful stuff that can happen in a school short of sexual abuse--verbally abusive teachers, inadequate special education, you name it. What's to give any family there confidence that the school will be transparent about other issues that arise?
