OP it depends on your health and how you feel. Is 40 old? Yes. Is it too old? No. And definitely not for this area. I had my second at 33. Thinking of TTC next year. If all works out I’ll be pregnant at 37. Not 40 but pretty damn close.

Hate to break it to you, but younger moms have babies with problems as well. And many over 40 have perfectly healthy children.

Are you misreading the x axis on the yellow chart or what? PP is right

Anything past 35 is dangerous

no it's not. these are all very small probabilities.

+1! According to this chart, at 40, the percentage of babies with some type of a chromosomal abnormality is 1.5%. So, the overwhelming majority of 40 year olds (98.5%) give birth to babies without any type of chromosomal problem.

I'm in the 98%! I had our healthy, smart, beautiful DD at 40. She is our third. I had the first two at 33 and 36. The only difference is that it took longer to get pregnant with #3. I got pregnant with #1 and #2 the first month trying. When trying to get pregnant with #3, I got pregnant the second month trying and then miscarried at 12 weeks. It took another 6 months of trying to get pregnant with DD. But, I got pregnant on my own and had a completely easy pregnancy and birth. I can completely understand why some people might not want to have babies in their 40s, but it bugs me beyond belief when people misunderstand or misrepresent the risks of being an older mom.

In my experience, most educated professional (which DH and I are) have kids in their 30s to early 40s. So, at least among the moms I know, I don't feel "old." For me, having kids in my 30s and 40s has helped to keep me young.

Not worth the risk of SNs, genetic issues that can't be found early, etc.

Not to mention that it would still be a dependent when DH and I are in our 60's. Not the retirement I envisioned.

+1 for me.

I think this would be it, jerk. OP is totally entitled to post here.

Also. She should try the RESOLVE forums

If you think you feel old now, just wait til #3 is 10 and you're 53.

Are you wife #2?

Yep. Hate all you want, married nearly a decade, two great kids and a happy life (no kids with his ex).

Whoa you married a 37 year old divorced guy when you were 22? How did your parents feel about that?

I imagine he was successful and had money, so the parents were probably fine with it.

Very old, plus having a kid ages you even more. Lots of energy

No not at all. Look around DC or any city with highly educated women and you will see it’s no big deal.
