Appreciate the pp who keeps trying to point out that immigration is not a state issue. Unfortunately, like so many other issues, facts don’t matter to the voters who would vote for Trump and this new version of Gillespie. Sad state of affairs since our country relies on an informed electorate but so many vote on conspiracy theories and hate/fear instead.

I teach computer science at a college in Southern California. Last semester I attempted to recruit my best student, a Vietnamese man as a computer science major. What does that have to do with e verify and undocumented immigrants? H-1B visa holders are here legally (hence being identified as VISA HOLDERS). I don't totally agree with the visas and believe (as a strong dem supporter) that it undercuts the wages of highly skilled American workers, but the issuance of those visas is part of a federal program, not something controlled by the state of Virginia.

Now, if states said they would stop giving tax abatement and other breaks to corporations who use those visas that would be different, but nobody has the balls to do that because every state is trying to undercut each other for these businesses to choose them.

Um, immigration is the federal government's jurisdiction and it's a civil, not criminal, issue. This is an issue that can only be truly addressed at the the federal level.
