For acquaintances, that is fine but I just can't do it with a friend.
I consider time of no value unless the person is explicitly paid for time spent (opportunity cost is nothing too when it's choice) It seems like you do keep tabs as you are annoyed by those who try to pay their share only. Gifts, favors? Can you be friends without a non-stop exchange of something?

I am very generous as well. And why am I or why can I afford it? Because I only pay for MY own food when I have dinner with friends at restaurants.
I don't spoil that money ... And this way I can make presents for special occasions all year long.
Sharing from time to time is fine but I wouldn't do it all the time.
My friends don't owe me anything and I don't owe them anything.
You just have to respect the fact other people have a different opinion from yours and they can still be a good friend.

Seems like you are the cheap one. You can't be friends with someone that won't subsidize you, own it.
