OMG that sounds disgusting. Ugh. We were pretty horrified by them when we moved in 4 years ago but we never had numbers like that. We use sticky traps, which work quite well, and the cats catch the ones that get by the traps. To my knowledge the cats haven't had digestive issues like another PP's cats ... but they don't really eat many of them, they seem to just kill and dismember them and leave the parts for DH and me to clean up. Gross but better than dealing with live ones. However, it does mean we check the basement right before guests come over in case the cats have left cricket parts around in the TV area. Wouldn't want guests to see that.

They make so much noise I can't sleep at night, and when they do come out and my cats kill and eat their hind legs, they end up getting digestive issues = veterinarian bills. That is why I don't want them.

This is nonsense. You cannot seal up every single hole in the basement. the exterminator is only good for approximately 4 months.

Yep. I've had the exterminator come and I've sealed all crevices and they still came back. I put down the rat poison under the washer and I haven't seen one in six months.

But the problem with that is if the cricket eats the rat poison, crawls out from under the washer/dryer, and then your pet eats the cricket, it can kill your pet depending on its size.

I have 2 cats and I have had to take them to the vet for eating crickets. Both got the runs and the vet found cricket bodies in their stool samples. So I don't want my cats killing and eating them either.

I'm purchasing some glue strips tonight, but will keep them away from the cats.

Is there a difference between camel crickets and cave crickets?? I have no basement or leaky anything, Ive lived inthe same house for 23 years and never had them, now I cant get rid of them, please help. No humidity in the house either.

Ever heard of Konk. This is sold at farm supply stores and maybe some hardware stores.
You don't need an exterminator. You activate the can and leave the house for 2 hours.
I would do it on a day were I could be gone 8 hours and then air out the place for awhile.

I call them the giant crickets from hell. And I also thought they were cracked out spiders when I first moved here. Freakish things.

I saw one of those things in my house and almost lost my effing mind! I didn't know what the hell it was and it came at me like it was on acid or something. I have no solution, but thank you for giving it a name. I thought it was a spider on red bull or something.

Rereading these as our new house has tons. Has anyone else used the rat poison?

Exterminate. Exterminate. Exterminate. The last straw for us was when one jumped onto our guests in bed in the basement guest bedroom. Mortifying.

I grew up near College Park, and we had those monsters in our basement and garage. AKA Jumpies and HippityBops, the ones in our neighborhood grew to literally three inches in the body (we used to catch and measure them), and looked like a VW Beetle with frog legs. Yes, they could jump floor to ceiling. Yes they jumped right at you and showed no fear.

I have SEEN them eating their own dead, and maybe my dad was part cricket or wore aftershave derived from cricket musk, but they used to bite his legs and leave welts. Visual ID on the crickets and welts.

After College, I moved and other than going back to help clean out the house, haven't seen 'em since! But the other day, in my 10-year old house, I found a baby, translucent and < 1/2", on the railing of my deck. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
