Breadth and depth poster, MIT grad as well. Of course it’s possible to learn MVC in middle school, it’s also possible to only brush over some superficial concepts over the summer. We don’t know what the case is.

The issue I have is using some milestone like when you take some advanced class in math to qualify someone as genius or an outlier. It definitely shows potential, inclination, effort and nurturing. There are many ways someone can excel, people put too much stock on math ability alone.

Grew up in New England and I know a lot of these parents who "let their kids be kids" as that was the dominant culture there among the townies. Many of those kids are still living in their parents' houses, just like kids.
