My son was a preemie and was in the NICU for the first 10 weeks of his life.

After 4 weeks off, I agreed to work half days at the request of my grandboss - essentially 10-2:30 until my son was released from the hospital.

After doing this for 2 weeks, my direct boss (who I later learned had objected) questioned me about whether the arrangement was necessary. His words still sting. "Why do you need to be at the hospital for half a day, it is not like you are a doctor. You cannot do anything. This whole thing is interfering with your job." I went on full maternity leave that following Monday. Funny thing is that his wife saw me at a company function (I guess he told her what he said to me) and she apologized to me in tears. Ironically, their first child was a preemie and he asked me to talk to his wife about it.

By accepting an unpaid job, you let everyone know you were usable.

When I told boss I was pregnant, he shared a story about an old coworker that was pregnant with twins. He told me how she was very difficult to work with and concluded that it “must be the hormones” and also shared with me how he had encouraged her to go out on maternity leave early.

"When you are in a meeting [any meeting], you are not to speak unless asked a direct question. Then you can answer that question only. Nothing more."

My H put in for sick leave for my son and his boss said, "Don't you have a wife". His response was, "Yes, but I love my son so I am involved in his life."

Guy here. My (female) boss told me I shouldn't be leaving work at 5:30 to pick up my DD from daycare because "You have a wife. She should be handling that." I start work at 8 am. So yeah, bullshit happens to guys too.
