Cops were called, they were charged with following too closely, failure to avoid a crash. I was never charged with anything, even when the people who hit me told the police officer I did it intentionally. I said I braked as hard as I could because I thought I saw something out of the corner of my eye about to run into the road. I can't help if they couldn't stop, it wasn't my concern.
The two times they hit me, my car was damaged beyond value ("totaled", because it was a crappy older car and not worth anything) and I used my PIP insurance to run up the bills for physical therapy. I wasn't hurt, but I wanted to run the bill up, because in Maryland, the typical settlement for an at-fault accident is about 3x the medical
So for one crash I got $36,000 and the other I got $22,000, minus 34% to my attorney. So I made out ok.
I have a nice car now, so I probably won't do it now, but if I'm ever driving a beater again, I'll do it if I'm provoked.
Insurance Fraud. A federal offense.
Thanks for sharing.

Considering I wasn't really even hurt the two previous times I did it, it's pretty unlikely that I'll be killed the next time I do it.
But thanks for wishing DEATH on someone who won't put up with bullying from other drivers.
That really says a lot about you. A lot.
I hope you're tailgating me one day, and I'm driving another beater of a car. Because you'll end up paying me too, just like the two other asshats.
NP here. Let's leave aside your own safety, and even that of the other driver. What about the other cars on the road? Do you really think you have so much control over your vehicle that you could always do a "brake check" and be 100% sure that you would not cause any harm to any other car or driver innocently passing by? You're getting hyper-focused here, and losing the forest for the trees. I'd encourage you to re-think your entire approach to driving.

Unbelievable. This is what's wrong with the insurance industry! People like you driving the rates up.Anonymous wrote:Ive brake-checked people that were aggressively tailgating me, andthree times it's resulted in crashes. Did you wait until the last minute and cut in front of a long line of cars patiently waiting? Did you cut him off? You did something that set him off. Also, why not switch lanes and slow down to let him get in front of you so you could disengage?
