Something is wrong with the character of people who would voluntarily choose Penn State. That's why all this inexplicable souless activist occurs there. The people and atmosphere are toxic.

Just read an article in which the victim''s parents said he was treated like "roadkill" by the fraternity members. Apparently no one from the fraternity or the university attended the funeral or wake. How pathetic.

This has nothing to do with drinking laws. This has everything to do with college aged men not having a shred of compassion and human decency. Read the details on what they did with him and how they wanted to cover it up. This isn't just about alcohol abuse.

I felt sick reading the timeline details. I don't understand the ones that KNEW he fell down a long flight of stairs and didn't do anything to help. I'm guessing there must have been some that didn't know about the fall and just assumed he was drunk and asleep? But there were others that saw him moving strangely, and still didn't do something.
I think this is an example of our society that often no one wants to be the one to step forward and do the right thing.
UPenn is the ivy. Penn State is average to get into, but after this and after the Sandusky stories, who would even consider sending their kid there??
U Penn is an incredible school and a totally different school.
Tons of kids go to Penn State. It's a big sports and party school. They're really into Penn State pride to the point that the Penn Stare grads I know defend Joe Paterno which is a real specisl kind of stupid.

I was just reading about this and it is sickening. I don't know if anyone mentioned it upthread, but a student from VA filed a lawsuit against Penn State and his fraternity in 2015 alleging serious hazing incidents and sexual harassment by the fraternity in keeping a private FB page of nude photos of young women who had attended parties there.
The school basically blew him off and denied any of those things had happened. Just think, if they had taken action earlier, perhaps this horrible death could have been prevented. So sad.

Were the students involved expelled from the school? I know the frat was, but what about the individual members? Of course they are innocent until proven guilty, but I am curious if they are still going to classes, etc.

I was talking to a 'flyover' type mom from central PA today whose husband and all of his siblings went to PSU.
The flyover mom is not letting her kid apply to psu.
Seems like there is hope yet for the rubes of PA. When you start losing support from families like the aforementioned mom, you know you done fucked up as a school.

I think the Greek system is completely overrated and out of control.
I too chose a school with no Greek system, and I'm grateful my son feels the same way. I'm not completely anti-Greek -- close family members and friends have had terrific experiences -- but I think it's can be too much for someone on the quieter side to feel comfortable about.
