Not most people in this area. If you don't live around here you should look up the average rent/mortgage before you speak.

Also, if your hhi is lower you can probably send your bright kid to private school on a significant scholarship. I know people who purposely stay with lower income jobs so their kids get subsidized private (their families work at private schools in the area - they know what they are doing).

I am in a similar situation as you are, and I'm sure other families are as well -- looking at an acceptance letter, wanting to do what's best for your child, also looking at the reality of your family finances and trying to figure out how to make it work.

You called them 'stingy'. Read up on the San Miguel school that SJC operates for 6-8th grade in Silver Spring, free or nearly free to all students, who then matriculate into SJC. You literally have no idea what you are talking about.

Also, when you go to sjc you're also playing for football , basketball and soccer players etc to go. (And don't tell us that Plank pays for them all).

Regular people still might need some FA to get through without going bankrupt.

Oh gosh - we are the same and we're putting 2 through Catholic high schools after doing 10 years for each in parochial elementaries. While aid is nice (we got 7K when both kids started at the same school), we are definitely are not needy compared to families I now meet outside our suburban bubble. We did not qualify for anything when only 1 was in high school but we believed in the education and backburnered a lot to make it happen.
