OP, you sound like a real joy.

My DD didn't study for the ACT at all. She wasn't a particularly good student. She got a 31, she is at a decent public university and she's happy.

Because 3 weeks of prep is going to do so much more than 2 weeks of prep? Really?

If the guy has been a serious student in school for years, if he has taken and done well in challenging courses all along. If he retains info and does well on tests....maybe he is better off not over preparing. Maybe he has looked at the ACT prep book already and has things under control.

Any kid with semi-decent ACT/SAT scores can go to State U. for not too much money and have a nice career in comp sci, nursing, engineering, etc. They won't be elite but they will do just fine, with 5% of the stress of OP's kids.


Only the top 10-25% of state school kids become engineers, computer scientists, accountants. You're living in fantasy land. Shit, nearly half of all kids fail out of public colleges - boys are the most at risk.
