Before reading that book, I would be doing exactly as you did, but after reading this book, I would have handled this differently. You will see! Your life will become much easier, there will be less fights, and your kid will be sweeter.
And let me just say this: advice from ANYONE who has not had a 13 y.o. DD is suspect. What works on toddlers to tweens does NOT work on many teens, and in fact, backfires. I say this as a recovered smug parent of younger-than-teen children.
I know you love this book.
I know this because you post it on nearly every single thread every other day.
Please just ask Jeff for a sticky if you want to promote this book so much.
Oh, PP, stop. I'm just trying to help, as someone on DCUM helped me. (And btw I know I'm not the only one suggesting it.)

Is her phone included with yours on a plan? All of ours are on the same plan, and my husband can go on his phone and suspend any phone at any time. Had that been my child, that's what would have happened immediately, so my girls wouldn't have behaved that way in the first place. We've only had to suspend one phone one time, and after that they both knew that we wouldn't hesitate to do it if we had to. He who controls the account controls the behavior.

My kids have similar issues. They either have to leave their phones in the car or put them in my purse. We all (kids included) know they can't have their device and not use it. The solution is that when we go out or to a friends or family's home, they just don't have it readily accessible.
