You do know that many Republicans also didn't want Trump as president? Is that sad, too? If Mitt Romney had won, Bob Dole or John McCain had won we wouldn't be happy but, there would not be #heisnotmypresident. This is different and it is sad that you don't realize that we are now just like every third world country with a dictator.

"Hello Blair Families,
As you may have heard, high school students across the nation are planning to walk out to protest current events. We are taking a constructive approach to ensure that students remain safe on campus and that there will be minimum disruption to the school day and their learning. Some of our students are planning a peaceful protest at 10 a.m. today, Monday, November 14. Participation is voluntary and not encouraged by school staff. To ensure their safety, which is our TOP priority, we are providing a safe place (our stadium) for students. The time planned for the protest is 10 a.m. Students are to return to the school building at the end of period 3 (11:07 a.m.) to resume their day. Parents will be notified through our automated attendance system if their child is marked absent from any classes today.
Students participating in this protest must bring a note from their parent/guardian within three days stating they approve this absence or they will be marked unexcused. As always, students who choose to leave campus without parent permission will have an unexcused absence.
MCPS Student Code of Conduct Freedom of Assembly
Students have a right to assemble for discussions of issues of importance to them and to demonstrate peacefully. Students have a responsibility to consult with the school principal to determine if the activity will be allowed during the school day, outside the school day, or during lunch, and the type of supervision required. Students also have a responsibility to work cooperatively with staff members, take reasonable steps to ensure that the activity is orderly, and make up missed work.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Principal Renay Johnson."
Looks like they are excused to go to the stadium to protest, but not march the streets of SS. Will be interesting to see how this is handled.

Policy on absence.
The students were clearly sick. Sick of racism and bigotry. Sick of hateful rhetoric and action that had even spread into Silver Spring, a diverse area.
School Principals have the ability to mark an absence as "lawful," and I am sure the schools' respective Principals will mark these absences as lawful.
So are they cured of their sickness now? Or will they be out sick for the next four years?

My kid has taken a field trip to a farm. And that is educational. My kid has taken a field trip to a trolley car museum. And that is educational.
Perhaps the principal sees experiences, not just instruction, as educational. Perhaps he/she sees one day of activism as just as valuable as understanding the histories of trolleys in our country.

Completely agree.
Completely disagree.
Teenagers feel things just as deeply as, and perhaps more deeply than we adults do.
The vast majority of teenagers are also completely uninformed about politics. Feeling things deeply has nothing to do with it.

But what do they want? When you protest, you are asking for change. What is the change that they want?
You don't know what they want? Trump has not implemented his ridiculousness yet, they are protesting.... immigration laws.... sexually assaulting women....
okay, i got you started you should be smart enough to figure it out.
Your post doesn't answer the question. Exactly, what do they want? Vote again until HRC wins?
They want what any protestors want - a voice. What is the point of any public protest, any march? The point is to be heard.
They want it to be known that they are opposed to this "person" the electoral college elected to be POTUS.
I'd say get over it. That's life. As much as I hate Trump as our next President, he is our next President. We have to honor the system whether we like it or not.
Sorry, that is not how politics works. People can affect change even with a president you did not elect. You can protest to voice your opinion on matters that are being considered and it can change the viewpoint of others.
Every single lobbyist in DC is getting ready to pay their way for whatever they want. That is how it works.
Yes, I agree. Your post is nauseating enough to change my point of view. Lobbyists buy their way for whatever they want regardless who wins the election. They always have, always will.
