The single sex private school 8th grade kids don’t go to Capital Cotillion, they go to the one at Visi hosted by the Wheaton School of Dance.

These classes, whoever runs them, is good for kids. It gets them comfortable with the other gender, gives them experience in how to navigate social settings with new people, introduce themselves, present themselves.
There are so many kids who need this and the irony is that the kids who are sent to these classes are self-selected by parents who understand how important it is for kids to develop and feel comfortable with their own presence and facilitate social interactions.

Capital Cotillion is definitely overcrowded and much less focused on teaching manners and Mrs Simpsons was. For single single sex school kids it’s still an opportunity to meet the opposite sex. Not sure if it’s worth it in grades 3-5 and 8, but it’s hard to get in 6 and 7, if you are new and a girl. Boys are easier to get in, because they do maintain a balance. Make sure you get in to the right cohort for your school for pre or after parties.

I know parents who sent kids to NLJC and were fairly happy with the results.
