No, I'm considering them, just not sure they are our only or best option.

Consider it this way--most people no matter how gifted they are, don't apply to just Stanford, Harvard, and Yale. They put some safety schools in there.

Getting an educational evaluation of your kid by a psychologist may be helpful to help you understand his strengths and weaknesses regardless of what school he attends, but one is necessary for a SN school application. Tour SN schools that seem like a good fit, apply to one or two that would meet his needs. The SN school will become familiar with your child's needs through the application and meet your kid if he does a play date. If for some reason he is counseled out or not accepted to a mainstream school, it's much less stressful for you and your kid if you have a fallback plan.
