Adding another body in the house doesn't work for a lot of people, no matter what the cost is.

Another choice for a higher cost item.

Um, we would love an au pair but couldn't afford a 4th bedroom (family of 5 here)... And au pair need their own bedroom and I think own bathroom?

The nanny might have been cheaper bc it was a shorter duration than mortgage on a bigger house.

This budget should be very easily doable even with vacations.

I think it's funny that people have to justify why their student loans are so high. Oh, I'm a lawyer, so it's ok that my student loans are insane.

The debt is the issue. OP would have a much better lifestyle without it, hopefully it is paid off soon.

I personally LOVE these threads.

The I'm so poor weeping and moaning makes me laugh. You CHOOSE the life you want and you CHOSE the expensive life.

All I know is I thank GOD everyday I don't live near any of you.

You really don't live in No Arlington -- very few working moms here. So no one to do a nanny share with. I guess some commuting mom from fairfax, but how do you coordinate that?

There are plenty of working moms in No. Arlington. I'm a working mom (and a MONA member) who lives in N. Arlington. People regularly post questions about nanny shares on the MONA listserv. You might want to try that.

Really? I'm a SAHM, and it's usually just me and the nannies at the parks.
