I'm from Milwaukee and am glad to see it getting love! I never thought I'd say it, but it's become a pretty cool city - good food, amazing art museum (bonus for being fantastic with kids), great use of the lake, and nice people.

Other pleasant surprises have been Richmond (the local restaurant scene is great); Big Bend National Park and Terlingua, Texas; Tucson (the desert museum and national park were awesome); the law school summer I spent in Mississippi; and Knoxville (good food and such a cute city).

We thought we were being so edgy by going to Pittsburgh...but clearly not! Had a great time though.

Arkansas. We stayed at the Peabody hotel in Little Rock which has ducks swimming in the lobby fountain. We visited the Bill Clinton library, partied at a piano bar in Little Rock, visited Hot Springs National Park, visited Hope- Bill Clinton's birthplace and childhood home and the kids' favorite, a state park that is a diamond mine. You can keep what you find and we did find diamonds! It was an all around great trip.

Milwaukee is a blast!! It's inexpensive and there's a lot to do! They have a nice zoo, breweries are fun, Brewers games are a great time... it's an awesome weekend trip.

Pittsburgh and Harpers Ferry

I didn't go there, so I'm not biased, but Bloomington, Indiana is the most beautiful college campus/college town I've ever seen. It's just a lovely, lovely place.

Asheville is great. Omaha too. Denver and Vail in the summer.

For those road-tripping to Pittsburgh, another beautiful place is Ohiopyle PA. Natural water slides, beautiful rivers, Falling Waters house. Incredible natural beauty.

Some of these have already been mentioned, but I love Traverse City, MI (only place I could ever imagine having a summer home).

San Antonio was fun. I also love Annapolis, if you want something closer and with a (similar in some ways) fun/touristy waterfront.

I had a great time in Tuscon: hiking in Saguaro National Park, exploring the gardens and having lunch at Tohono Chul, seeing the mission and eating fry bread there, enjoying the hotel pool and hot tub, and drinking margaritas.

Omaha was also surprisingly great. The zoo is nice, there's a fancy baseball stadium, good Mexican food and murals, friendly people, lots of steakhouses if that's your thing, the Joslyn Art museum, and much more.

My wife came back from a business trip to Oklahoma City and was shocked with how much fun she had.

Glad to hear all the love for Pittsburgh--my brother is moving there this summer and I'm now excited to visit!
