You wouldn't believe how often I think of the movie Defending Your Life, particular the scenes where Albert Brooks passes up the opportunity to invest in his friends small tech company that turns out to be huge, and the scene where Meryl Streep can eat anything she wants and does, because she's in pergatory and can't gain weight. That last one has always been a fantasy of mine!

Also who can resist a young James Spader sexing it up with Susan Sarandon.

I love Defending Your Life. I can picture those scenes, too!

Also agree with Vera Drake, Winter's Bone, and Freeway.

"Flirting," the Australian prep school movie with a teenage Nicole Kidman. Also "Strictly Ballroom," which is hilarious.

I always say The Sweetest Thing is the funniest movie no one has seen. I don't know how it did in the theater but I own it and it still cracks me up when I watch it.

Breaker Morant--Australian, Boer war

Wadjda--Saudi, young girl covets bicycle despite cultural strictures

Play it as it Lays--Tuesday Weld (yum!) in movie version of Joan Didion book

That was a particularly good movie with spectacular performances from Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio (before he was a superstar).

Probably Tim Curry's best performance ever and an amazing cast of talented comedists. It flopped (probably because of the ill-conceived and poorly executed plan around the multiple endings in different theaters). Once it hit the DVD and movie channels, it developed a much bigger cult following and now it's pretty well known and appreciated by the millennial crowds and developed a new life. For those who loved Clue, this is a pretty good read:

I really wish Serenity had done better in the theatres. I think the creators were hoping it would have franchise potential like Star Trek. Such a good series.

+1. And I'm surprised it didn't do better. Firefly had such a cult following including a large base for the "bring back Firefly" campaign that I thought it would do better.
