When we got married, we didn't divide like this, and had time to cook together, etc, but 17 years and 2 kids later, w/ 2 parents working FT professional jobs, we have fallen into the pattern of each person does the the things they are better at/ chores by area of strength. We need a divide and conquer mentality to keep the house running.

I do many MANY other things in the house, but laundry is something I just don't do. Because I've been criticized one too many times by DW for how I do it (example -- I tend to mix dark clothes together, so blacks, reds, navy, hunter green all go in the same wash -- she insists you have to do it by color.)

I've been kind of wondering about these SAHMs who don't do all the laundry. If my husband was the only one working, I'd consider keeping his work clothes clean and organized to be part of my contribution to his success. If I were the only one working, I'd certainly expect such a "foundational" home chore to be taken care of by my husband.
