Another list that is almost completely charter. We got into a DCPS OOB pre-common lottery but are DCPS's that hard to get into these days? There are a ton with much more convenient (to downtown) locations than LAMB, CMI, etc. Is it just that they market better?


Convenient to downtown for who? You have no idea where other people live.

NP. Yes - it is much harder to get into the more desirable DCPS ECE programs OOB w/out a sibling preference. Schools that were considered safeties are not anymore.

Option 3: Lottery for a neighborhood school that isn't hard to get into.

Folks, don't bother to list a school you know won't work for your family because the commute is too complex. And remember not to waste your slot on schools where you have no hope of entry due to inbound siblings and no proximity. Voice of experience.

You don't say where you live, but please make sure to do some test drives for these schools. The commute could be a nightmare. Also, what grade is this for? If it's PK3/4 you might want to stick an Appletree towards the bottom as a safety. There's no chance getting in OOB at some of these schools for ECE.



We live in Capitol Hill, this is for PK3.



If you can get into Van Ness (and that's a big if), it will probably be a good fit. It doesn't appear to be a Title I school, and the oldest kids next year will only be in 1st grade.

Only YY, MV (limited from Mt Pleasant) and Latin have shuttles that I'm aware of. That's sort of misleading saying "the better schools"

It's worth knowing that some of the better schools such as YY have shuttle routes to get students to and from school, if you're willing to pay for it.
