I didn't know that wishing to live live without predatory criminals robbing, knifing or shooting them is "white privilege."

So you let them walk to the playground themselves? Cross busy roads? Play in front of the convicted child abusers house?
And your front door? Open, right?
No - you make a series of choices to protect your children and yourself.
Yes, they walk to the playground by themselves. Yes, they cross busy roads by themselves. No, they don't play in front of the convicted child abuser's house, because there isn't one in our neighborhood that there would be any reason to play in front of.
We keep the front door closed because we don't want the cat to get out.
If you are a real parent and not a troll, this is dripping with irony. You do more to protect the cat than you do to protect your children.
How old are my children?

So what do you teach your daughters? Wear whatever you want, go anywhere you want, any time, with anyone or even alone if you want? Drink to excess, get lost? Don't bring a phone, etc.
How do you prepare your children for the reality we live in?
What do you teach your sons? Do you teach them that they can wear whatever they want, go anywhere they want, any time, with anyone or even alone if they want? Drink to excess, get lost? Don't bring a phone, etc.?
I have a consistent message for my children - protect yourself.
And you? Guess you can't actually respond directly to anything because you know how ridiculous you sound.
That's nice. My message for my children is: be prudent.

Not the OP, but did you read her post? She knows she did a dumb thing by leaving her purse in plain view. She also acknowledges that even Georgetown is vulnerable to these types of crimes. She was railing against the naysayers who were denying that that other attack happened in which the woman was surrounded by a gang of youths as she was getting in her car. I think OP is with you, PP.
If anything, this is a PSA that if you move to a big city like DC, always be on guard. Do not expect DC to change. Crime has been an issue in the city for eons, like any city. This is not Kansas anymore, people!

OP you really need to stop watching the Disney Channel and turn on the friggin news once in a while. Shit happens EVERYWHERE. There are no "safe spots"...there are no "crime free zones"...there are no magical villages of affluent immunity where people can throw caution and common sense out the window and be free to leave their purses in plain sight without worry and leave their keys in the ignition without concern. You should remain careful until you drop dead OP and if shit happens because of your ignorance and/or negligence...well, you asked for it.

For years under Barry the public schools had no toilet paper in the bathrooms and yet DC voters voted for the crook repeatedly. I'd call that "low expectations."
I didn't know that the DC mayor was personally responsible for toilet paper in school bathrooms.

No, but expecting to live without such things is certainly affluent privilege.
How about demanding to live without them? We need more effective police protection to nip this spike in crime in the bud as it spikes and spreads in formerly pretty safe areas. Call it white privilege if you want, which means that you wallow in the false bigotry of low expectations. Sorry, but as a longstanding Washingtonian and taxpaying citizen, I expect DC to provide more than shithouse services.
I think they are purposely targeting those areas because that's where the $$ is. Not sure if its a spread as much as it is targeting.
Well then they had better be careful if they stop me. I carry and I'm pretty good at "targeting" myself.
