What? Do any public high schools allow students to choose a teacher? You can guess about what teacher is teaching what higher level class and attempt to schedule accordingly--that's about it.
PP here; that's what I was getting at. But, in a school as big as Wilson, is could be the case that two different teachers teach the same exact class, right? Or in practice is, say, AP World History taught exclusively by Mr. John Doe, whereas "regular history" is always taught by Mrs. Susan Doe?
And to PP, it's not the case that I and others like me "wouldn't be satisfied" with "public." We may in fact move to MoCo in a couple of years to take advantage of one of a few high schools. I'd prefer not to move, because we love our house and location, so I want to explore the Wilson day-to-day experience some more. Not 'where do some Wilson grads get into college every year? Why, Yale!' That doesn't tell outsiders anything about their education. i.e., that Yale admit from 2014 could have an IQ of 140/get perfect SATs, and run a mile in 5 minutes, and be a double Yale legacy. Or not -- it could be that he's typical of NWDC and Wilson inputs were the factor that tipped the balance for him, due to amazing Wilson curriculum, instruction, and global experiences while there.
Can we have a discussion without lashing out at me for opting out of Deal?
I didn't see people lashing out at you for opting out of Deal, but it seems like if you've done your due diligence for that school and aren't satisfied, then it seem logical that you probably wouldn't choose Wilson. But, you're upset that you're not hearing the right things about Wilson, so it seems like you're demanding that people justify their choice. And, it seems odd that if you didn't like Deal you would move to Maryland.
My kid loves Deal, as does just about everyone I talk to. We're happy with the instruction, definitely the teachers, the community and principal. Though, said kid is not sure about Wilson, so we'll look around. Second kid says he is going to Wilson, but he's not in MS yet.

I think some of these so-called Janney parents aren't actually Janney parents, but are just trolls looking to stir up trouble. I'm a Janney parent. I derive no satisfaction from bringing down other schools and why would I spend any time thinking about it at all? So strange.

Seriously, Janney parents should be psyched about the classes entering Deal instead of focusing on which school has the highest scores. Why not focus on all the high scorers entering Deal and Wilson?

Almost all of them. I hope the Janney kids don't pull down the Hearst and Eaton kids. Funny looking at these numbers knowing the IB rate at Hearst and Eaton.

Can you now post the 10 year numbers for all these schools? A one-year snap shot is just that.
Also, it's interesting that you (?) got pissy with the OP for limiting the discussion to just "JKLM" but then proceeded to limit your own answer -- 'Eaton is great, too!!!" -- to ...just the white folk.
It was an obvious unintentional error to leave off Eaton as you can see from subsequent posting of Eaton's great scores as well as mentioning how great Eaton and Hearst are as well. Feel free to do your own data analysis. Why do you care what Janney's scores are 10 years ago as it is the kids that tested last year that are going to be attending Wilson from OP's question. Scores for 10 years ago are from kids that are no longer in high school. Sorry your false "JKLM is the best and only option" theory is no longer considered to be the end all be all....especially with 33 kids per class.

Not at all. I think Janney is a great, proven school. Just amusing that many Janney parents think J is the only school worth considering. You'd they'd be ecstatic at the prospect of their future high school cohorts, while being diverse, will be just as prepared as they are. Isn't that exciting?

Wilson is the only public or charter school in Washington DC to have National Mert Semifinalists here in DC this year. The cut off was 225, the highest in the nation?. Wilson had two, Sidwell cleaned up with 11, and among all the privates we got about 30/40? See the thread on the College Board

Curious too. I've only ever seen this kind of data on learndc.org, but it doesn't have this particular data set.
