fair enough.
The Duke lacrosse scandal was the result of an over-zealous prosecutor. It had nothing to do with campus politics at the time. Duke at that time was a super apolitical school. I knew lots of conservative people, many children of Republican political hacks. Duke was a nice preppy safe space for them. I know because I was a senior at the time.

Anonymous wrote:Duke is great. Small, friendly, nice town, great academics. Nice that Greek life exists but doesn't rule the social scene. Freshman live in East Campus and tours don't go there. You won't hurt for a supportive alumni network if you stay on the east coast. And everyone will hate you when it's basketball season (but they are just jealous).
Anonymous wrote:Please, everyone, please keep hating on Duke. Please, do not under any circumstances let your child apply there. It is a terrible place, you're right. Kids aren't smart, don't have any fun, and aren't getting a fabulous education. It's horrible, just horrible I say! And remember, don't let your kids apply.

Lost me at "YOu northern people ..."
Sure UVA mom.
Duke is the quintessential all around great school. Only other comparable school is Stanford. Yes, it does have a lot of students with hooks there but so does Stanford, and UChicago is test optional now, so it's hard to say if everyone belongs there either.
MOst of y'alls kids have trouble getting merit from UMD so I'm confused with what Duke (or any other southern elite) has to do with you all.

Chicago and Penn's business school are also ahead of Duke from a prestige perspective.
Trump went to Penn. That has seriously damaged their reputation.
