There are multiple options in MoCo as the school system is closed for Yom Kippur anyway. ArtWorks in Mount Rainier is also open and convenient if you live in Ward 5 and have your kids in a Ward 5 charter that is closed.

Brookland Ststion is going to be a disaster. They are saying waits of up to a couple of hours in the PM rush on the 23rd... They will have shuttles to Fort Totten and Rhode Island.

If you're scrounging for a care option due to the closure and Silver Spring wouldn't be too bad of a hike for you, Silver Stars Gym is hosting a one-day camp on the 23rd. They have before and aftercare and provide a pizza lunch. It's $68 per kid and they can take as young as 3.5 year olds. I've posted another thread with the URL and details.

Our school is providing school lunch for kids to take home Tuesday for Wednesday's closure.

I'm sure most schools will accept "acts of God" as a reason for an excused absence. Schools also need to consider working class parents who would struggle with time off and children who rely on the free and reduced meals. Parents who have time to be on this forum are the least of their worries. As for my children, I may keep them home and ask for a Papal indulgence.

MV just sent out an announcement that it will be closed.

Street closures were announced Thursday afternoon and many streets around CMI will be closed on Wednesday. CMI parents were notified of the closure by Friday afternoon. How much more can you expect?

An email specifically about the closure with that in the subject line. And perhaps some of the timing explanation you provided above.

Stokes and Yu Ying are also closed. Stokes is due to the Pope/ road closures. Yu Ying had already announced closure due to Yom Kuppur but would have had to close anyway as many of the streets leading to it are closed most of the time.

I live in Brookland and many of us were searching for info on road closures for some time but DC just had a press conference on his Thur PM and the press came out on Friday.

FYI there is also a big Moral Action on Climate rally on the Mall on the 24th which will attract thousands from all faith communities. It's to coincide with the Pope's address of Congress,

The city only recently updated the street closures. I'd blame the city not the schools.
