This is a great suggestion, for stodgy Republican types. The tough thing is being a left-wing, artsy former punk rock oldster, looking for someplace not stodgy, but not all 21 year olds.

If you're an ex-punk oldster, you should still be going to 9:30 Club for what I call their oldies shows: X, Jonathan Richman, Buzzcocks, Paul Weller and lots of others hit there at least once every year or so. Gary Numan at the Black Cat. Relive your happy childhood, I say.

Or just hit the 9:30 club anytime there are "older" bands there. And I find some of the classic country shows (Willie Nelson, Dwight Yoakam) skew older. Plus, some of the dance nights (80's, 90's) at The Black Cat are while not full of over 50 years olds - pretty age stratified so you would feel comfortable dancing and hanging out.

Thanks! Union Jacks is probably closed because it was too much fun. Most live music in Kentlands is squashed because of this too.

Any more ideas in MoCo/Upper NW? I am looking for a place that features live music, not just the bar scene/meat market (that is pathetic when you are over 50). From what I know the Potomac Grill, Clydes in Chevy Chase (lower bar), Union Jacks in Bethesda and Hank Dietles are all good suggestions. I will add my own-The Warner Theatre when there is a great band--the bar area is beautiful and busy for an hour or so before the show and leads directly into the concert hall. People flow in and out of the bar during the show too. See you at Tedeschi Trucks tonight!!

Checked them out on Friday night. Earl's was loud and packed. Did not see much of the over 50 crowd.

Eddie V's was dead.

Perhaps Saturday nights are better.
