We don't have a spare key. We have a keypad on our garage (attached to house) that we just type in the code if ever locked out. The door to get into the house from the garage is never locked.

Gasp!

My neighbor has a key, I know where her key is hidden if she's not home.

We also have a keypad on the garage door and never lock the inside door.

We have a big scary dog so sometimes we don't even lock the door.

bu i never lokc the interior door to the garage. so if you get the garage door open. you are golden.

I have a keypad for the garage door.

and for thos eof you paranoid about someing steeling car and finding your house.

guess what... all they have to do is look in the glove box for your registration and insurance. has address info. or push home on the GPS

Most folks have garage door openers in the car so they drive to your house. open the garage door. pull the car in just like you would. close the garage door. now they work on opening the door to the house without anyone watching....

And all it takes is a little muscle to open a garage door manually. So your logic is just as flawed.

"We hide my extra key in a fake stone. It looks like real. Moreover, it even feels real! There is room for 2 or maybe 3 keys. This fake stone blends into our garden nicely.

My husband insists that we purchased a mini safe like this, but I don't think there is a need for it yet

If any family member and I lived close by to each other, we each would definitely leave a spare key in the other's meter box. Also I like the idea of Biometric door locks. They are not science fiction anymore. Then you just have to remember to always have your fingers with you

If someone is posting this info from work or from some random IP at Starbucks how are they posting valuable info?

Digital locks on all exterior doors lock automatically. No keys.

this exactly! This saves us 1-2 times a year. Moving from our old house - no garage, we routinely would step outside to get mail or play with DD and lock ourselves out - to current house, this has been a major benefit!

Our next door neighbors have one (and we have theirs) plus a lock box attached to our deck.

What are the stats on "criminals" finding spare keys and using them to let themselves into a house and stealing everything?

Do you all also have bars on your windows? Because I hear that a little glass has never stopped a "criminal" from breaking and entering.

The paranoia runs deep.
