As mentioned there are many other names. Mom-mom is a ridiculous choice. Just tell her you would prefer another name.


It is a different choice, not a ridiculous one. It is very common in NJ and PA. So common that you can buy a Mother's Day card at the store for your Mom Mom.
OP, you don't have to like it. You can choose this as your battle ground. That is your choice. Just make sure it is worth the fight.

PP back. Another PP up above wondered if there was a Jewish link to this. We are not Jewish. We are Irish-Catholic and these great-grandparents lived in NYC.

I've heard of "Mom-Mom" before. It is what my mother called her paternal grandmother. (Her grandfather was "Pop-Pop." I think they sound cute together: Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop. I don't think there is any confusing "Mom" and "Mom-Mom." I think you are making too much of this. Too close to "Mom." She's encroaching on your territory. Tell her gently and laughingly self-deprecatingly that it would bother you, and present her with a bunch of alternatives.

Both of my grandmothers were "mom mom" followed by their names. Is your MIL Jewish OP? This is common with Jewish grandparents.

My mom wanted to be called Mom Mom LaLa but it turned hit just LaLa. She loves it.

Yes, the point that her MIL considers her feelings before acting, that the OP can be honest about her feelings, and everybody is ok.
