I know 2 people in the DC suburbs who sell this stuff, one is a SAHM in Burke who does some children's book thing and Jamberry and is super annoying about it, and the other lives in Woodbridge and does Mary Kay but only sells to her friends/family and is never pushy. I hate to feed into the stereotypes but most people I know who do the MLM's live in economically not great areas in the Midwest so their options for jobs are basically retail, trying to sell crafts on Etsy, or MLM's. It is definitely sad and a sign of our times.

That was always my impression as well. If you don't get too deep into it and if you build up a decent customer base, you can make some extra money. Otherwise, it's a giant crock and you will probably lose money.
