Why would you be supposed to only announce the birth of the first child?
According to DCUM you are basically supposed to hide your third "selfish" child away And feel shame for having them.

We had a few close friends send cards/gifts but got complete silence from everyone else. Traditionally, announcements were acknowledged with a card or gift, but I think that tradition is dying (and I think people are getting lazy).
It has never even occurred to me to send either a card or a gift in response.
Me neither, unless it's a very close friend or family member in which case I'm sending a gift without a birth announcement.

No, there are no "rules" like that for birth announcements. It is not a request for gifts.

+1 I just put it on my fridge. If I am close to the person I already know they had a baby by the time the little postcard thing comes. I thought that was just to share pictures with everyone?
If not and you're sending me a piece of paper expecting me to then have to go through of sending you a piece of paper acknowledging your piece of paper then just leave me off your distro list please!
Agreed. If you need attention from me, pick up the phone and call me.
