I guarantee you know a Republican. I have met people like you who:
1. Are shocked when they find I am a Republican because they assume someone like me would be "smarter" than that.
2. Try to convince me I am not a Republican.
And for the record, I don't insist global warming is false but may not agree with you on what is causing it. I don't want to blow up Obama Care but am open for a system which isn't government based, I don't think being gay is wrong nor am I against gay marriage (though I am against the government forcing business owners to make cakes for certain people), I don't believe everyone should be carrying around guns especially those who can't pass a background check, are criminals or don't have a license to own a firearm.

Bring on the Republicans in DC Charter. The college admissions situation will surely accrue the benefit. Mushy-minded liberals have a great way of tamping down rigor and setting back good planning in the name of fairness.

liberal here. I don't understand how any of this impacts a day-to-day friendship. I agree global warming exists, that obama care is better than no obama care, that there is nothing wrong about being gay, and that easy access to guns is a factor in causing violence. BUT someone can believe the opposite and still be a lovely, kind, empathetic person, and a great mother and friend. Yes, all this stuff is important, but it pales when compared to the importance of a person's temperament and humor and acceptance of me as a friend and support of me as a mother.
So if someone is nice to you, it doesn't matter that their politics oppress others?

We talk about our kids and the school teachers. I am facebook friends with parents some but haven't noticed anything political; if it was there it just didn't register it because what do I care? One of my best friends from college is an evangelical southern republican - we've had some political discussion over the years, but in college we mostly talked about boys and music and now we mostly talk about our kids.
This is a non issue.
IMO, it is someone wanting to feel persecuted. Your liberal school parents won't care and will absolutely say - "oh that sounds like fun" when you tell you you are going to Iowa to caucus for Tick Perry. They may even tell you a funny story about caucusing for Obama the last election.
I think you meant Dick Berry ?
Oops.
