The cops (white) were there to protect the neighbors (white) from the thugs-in-the-making (black).

Are you saying that cops should be asking for the demographic characteristics of the OFFENDERS before deciding whom to send? What if among the offenders there's a black woman, a transgender, a Jesuit priest and a Frenchman?

If you call 911 regarding an incident with another person one of the first questions they ask is, "Is the person white, hispanic, or African-American?"

It appears to me that there issues on both sides.

Some of the black teens were uninvited guests at a private pool. The white lady and police officer behaved very badly. Both sides were wrong.

However, I didn't really see the other cops doing much of anything to diffuse the situation and I did see teens swarming all around the area. I heard them being asked by the officer to 'sit on the ground until they get to the bottom of this.' That is a reasonable request no matter what color you are. Why did they not do this? Is the officer expected to leave unruly teens swarm around and out of sight? His first priority is to defend and protect himself. Those 2 boys came at him when his back was turned. I can't hear what they may have said to provoke the reaction of him unholstering his weapon.

There are too many missing facts here to pass judgement. However calling this an act of racism is jumping the gun a tad too quickly. Not every incident involving white cops and black people is racism.

strange, I am not white and think that the actions of the party organizers and attendees are more embarrassing. Should 100s of cops in riot gear showed up to control the invading trespassers?

I am not white either, and fully agree. The behavior of the cop and the woman was trashy and ignorant, and the behavior of the pool trespassers was trashy, ignorant, AND breaking the law.

When breaking up a pool party with a bunch of TEENS, you calmly, nicely, authoritatively behave like an ADULT and a trained police officer. You don't get into a situation where you need to handcuff a 14 YO girl in a bikini. And you certainly don't grab her by the hair, smash her face into the grass, and kneel on her back. And you don't pull your gun on a couple of young boys.

The kids may have behaved badly. The cop behaved worse. And he is a trained professional to whom we, the people, have issued a gun. Unacceptable.

Listen, SOME of the teens shoud not have done what they did (some had legit guest passses), but there are a few questions that need to be asked:

1. One of the witnesses, who was a White teen said that the parents and the cops did not hassle anyone who was not AA or Latino, but yet some of the teen "crashers" were White.

2. Will the White women who started the physical altercation be prosecuted?

3. Many of the teens said the were trying to leave but many were waiting for rides to arrive. They told the police this but were still told to disperse. Where were they going to go?

4. Why did the police allow civilians to assist in subduing the teens? There is a White fat guy who was "helping" the police to physically restrain Black kids.

5. Why did this cop lose his min when the other cops were calmer and more in control?

You aren't responsible for the actions of someone that has the same color skin as you. The sooner people learn that, the sooner incidents like this will diminish. Everyone's working from some collective assumptions and it can have deadly consequences.

It's quite clear to me that no one here is defending the teens for being there. They shouldn't have crashed a private party (although some were invited, so there are definitely racial assumptions at play here).

But this isn't really about teens being stupid. Because teens are stupid. What's the dumbest thing you did as a teen? Was it more or less stupid than crashing a private pool?

Even if you never did anything so dumb, the real issue here is about police training and tools. No police officer should feel the need to pull his gun on an unarmed teenager in a bikini. The officer should have multiple tools at his disposal for deescalation, and I don't mean tasers.

Why aren't we training police to deescalate situations without weapons, particularly when it is SO OBVIOUS that the other party isn't armed?

The "party organizer" should be prosecuted for trespassing ( or incitement to, at the very least).
