But Stannis burning his daughter definitely, definitely bothered me a LOT. Not sure if it was the intent of the show's writers/creators, but Stannis and his wife are now irredeemable characters for me.

I believe Snow is the last name given to all bastards. No relation, just indicates that neither is legitimate children.

What the Lord of Light asked if Stannis is not that different from what God asked of Abraham.

His sword is Valyrian Steel. There are only a few Valyrian steel swords left in the world, since none have been made since the Doom of Valyria (and nobody knows how to make it anymore.) It's harder and sharper than normal steel and is rumored to have been forged with magic spells. I don't think anyone knew that Valyrian Steel could kill a white walker until Jon actually did it. Valyrian steel did not exist 8000 years ago, the last time the White Walkers showed up in Westeros. The White Walker was pretty surprised when the sword didn't shatter.
So White Walker weapons out there right now:
Jon Snow - longclaw
Brienne of Tarth - Oathkeeper
Tonmen - Widow's Wail
Peter the Pimp - dagger
