Snow is the last name of all bastard children. When Ramsey was legitimized he became a Bolton (I think).

Early on it mentioned that Snow is the name given to illegitimate children. They are both bastards.

John's last name is Snow. Ramsey's last name is Snow. Are we to assume they are brothers?

The daughter thing wasnt ideal, but we all have to make sacrifices sometimes.

What the Lord of Light asked if Stannis is not that different from what God asked of Abraham.

First of all, what God asked of Abraham was a means test of his faith. Not a literal homicide of his child. And do you really think the Lord of Light did the asking? Seemed to me it was Melisandre giving the orders.

The Shireen scene was unnecessary. It seems that GOT is overly focused on upping itself on shock value for every few episodes. Its almost as if they are hoping to spark outrage to fuel more discussion via social media about the show. The Dany/dragon scene would have been so much better if it hadn't followed another shock value scene.

There are many different obvious roads the story can take vis-a-vis the many different prophecies, Dany and Jon, dragon must have three heads, Bran (he is supposed to "fly" remember), Jon's parentage, Azor Azai and Lightbringer, etc.. I don't know where it's going, but I can guess many of the possibilities.

It's Arya's story that I can't quite get. Where is he going with it and how does it fit? The books clearly hint at the fact that the Faceless Men may have caused the Doom of Valyria (the worship of the god-of-many-faces started in the slave mines of Valyria, and he hints to Arya that they brought the "gift" to their masters). The destruction of the greatest civilization the world has ever known (of which the Targaryens were only a minor House, but the only ones who survived.) I'm not sure the Faceless Men are fond of dragons.

I read an interview were he said the show has made some decisions that will make the last few seasons very different from the books. He didn't fault them - he just said it's not what he's writing.

Thy stated - the show is crazy violent and rapey but burning that girl on the stake last night didn't feel like it was worth watching Dany fly off on a dragon. It's getting a bit old for me.

Oh I'll still watch, I love the show, just sayin.

His sword is Valyrian Steel. There are only a few Valyrian steel swords left in the world, since none have been made since the Doom of Valyria (and nobody knows how to make it anymore.) It's harder and sharper than normal steel and is rumored to have been forged with magic spells. I don't think anyone knew that Valyrian Steel could kill a white walker until Jon actually did it. Sam's father, Randyl Tarly, has an ancestral Valyrian Steel sword (Heartsbane?) We'll see some Tarlys next season. It was hinted at when Stannis told Sam that his father was one of the greatest military commanders and the only one to have defeated Robert on the battlefield.

The show creators mentioned that GRR Martin told them about Shireen being burned. It hasn't happened in the books yet. But since she's not with Stannis in the books, I would bet that he does not order it (in fact, he wants her on the Iron Throne in the book.) It would be Selyse and Melisandre who burn the girl without Stannis knowing (since they stayed behind at Castle Black in books.)
