I left the Russians out because post WW2, Stalin killed shit load of jews during his purges. The UK and US are the equivalent of Moses for modern jews.
The UK gifted you the land and the UK and US are the direct parents of the existence of modern jewry.
But there is no appreciation - there is just whinging about 'anti-semitism', spying, not acting in good faith, having jewish leaders chide America, etc.
Sorry - appreciation would be an immediate full commitment to the two state solution and pulling out all settlements and listening to your de facto parents (the US and UK) on all matters.

In the 80s I worked for student groups that met with congress to persuade them to pressure the Soviets to release Jews to migrate to Israel. I felt bad for those Soviet Jews. So for me, the hypocrisy is apparent. It was never about whether these people were deserving of a peaceful place to live, or whether they were oppressed. It was all about raising the number of Jews vs. Muslims.
You'd feel even worse if you were one of these Soviet Jews on the receiving end of Israeli propaganda through the aliya outreach that sold them the notion of "land without people, people without land, y'all come". The existence of Palestinians and their claim to the land was never acknowledged except in passing as "these animals to whom we give jobs". The Soviet Jews were all enamored with the country that invited them to come in, gave them housing, jobs, schools - oh, by the way, these houses are likely to be in the occupied territories, but it doesn't matter, the land is all ours anyway. This is why former USSR Israelis are some of the most rabid right-wingers. The idea of Israel they've been sold simply does not include Palestinians, and they are fighting to preserve this idea. Feel sorry for them.

Don't kid yourself. Most Eritreans are going elsewhere. It's not like Israel is their #1 destination.

Actually, most are coming from Eritrea and Sudan by sea. They don't have to go through any other countries. Look at a map.

True. And, this is why the Obama administration tries to label everyone crossing our southern border as “refugees.”
Perhaps this is why the concept of a refugee holds little meaning now.

All of you, pls read about the refugee convention that came out of WWII and international obligations to protect people fleeing persecution. Asylum seekers and refugees are different than economic migrants; states' obligations are different.
