I think these orientation is really for the kids' benefit. Many will be attending a new school with new friends, so it'd be nice for them to see what their new school and teachers are like.

So yes! Nothing wrong at all attend repeatly with your other kids.

Now, if your base school is the center school.....then it's optional.

this is the reason why if DC#2 gets in we will NOT be attending orientation. We are already at a center school and have one child in AAP. I was shocked to see parents at that orientation who already had up to 1-3 kids already in AAP and already at the center school as base. Totally seemed like it was to show face. The kids already know the school and most teachers.

At DC1's center there has been a lot of teacher turnover since he was in third grade. If DC2 gets in, I would consider going to the orientation to meet the new third grade teachers. I really never thought anyone would think it was to"show face." It's not like people won't know who's in in a few months anyway. If a parent wants to go again, why judge them?

I agree. Plus, when we went to the orientation for my son, there was an aspect of the orientation just for the kids. Since my daughter didn't attend that back then, I would want to go again if she gets in so that she can have her chance to hear the presentation. It never would have occurred to me that it would look bad to attend with a second child.

So you can't wait until the meet your teacher day like everyone else? I guess the people in Gen Ed will just have to wait to meet the new teachers. In our AAP center in 3rd all the classes are mixed according to ability anyways throughout the year. Kids that weren't in AAP were still in advanced math with AAP students and visa versa. The program seems to always be tweaked after orientation anyways. It not that big of a deal.

You each have a very negative opinion of other people's motives. Everything around AAP brings out such snarkiness. I wish all the schools handled the AAP orientation the way one poster said her center did by announcing it in advance, and basically opening it to everyone. If all centers did that, it would diminish some of this animosity expressed on this board.
