Although his appearance was obviously part of the satire, the entire episode was about Kimmy realizing that she couldn't fix her inner turmoil by changing her appearance. Which anyone with a Netflix subscription could figure out. And it's not like they were mocking the appearance of a burn victim, but of someone who had disfigured themselves purposefully.
This show is hilarious, by the way. The first watch was underwhelming, but by the second watching I was laughing at all sorts of jokes I missed the first time.
