You're going to blame them, after all the hate hurled in their direction?
Hate hurled in this city is rarely, if ever, at Democrats. We're all so busy vilifying Brian Williams for his lies, exaggerations, and outright fabrications that we're giving Hillary Clinton a free pass for doing the exact same thing.
The point remains that in this very Democrat city, we all talk a big game, but when push comes to shove everyone who isn't poor, either moves or becomes a closet segregationist.

Not OP. I agree that, on paper, Powell is already a well-run school with a creative program, and is helping a majority-Latino population improve dramatically by 5th grade. It's probably the wrong example of a school that can be "improved."

If I wanted to live in Arlington or Bethesda it wouldnt be a problem. But I'm not putting myself in that suburban nightmare. I'd prefer to stay in the city and really help to improve things.
When I look at the resources that DCPS has to spend its hard to think that an active PTA can't help transform any school into a great school. I'm just wondering if too many DC parents of underperforming schools aren't willing (or aren't able) to do all they can to turn things around.
Here's my question for you. Powell is doing really well for a title one at least on paper. It's test scores are rising, it has a great to language program and award-winning principal, and an organized PTO.
what areas do you still think that a parent could help to improve?

I'm a liberal Democrat on most issues but on the issue of charters I am with the conservatives. Love them or hate them charters have shaken up the status quo in DC and that was needed.

Well, Charter schools ARE a practical way out of the entrenched culture of status quo (both inside and out) at DCPS's lowest achieving schools. There's no reversing the Charter trend at this point, as they are a savior for families across all income levels. Charters are really the answer to the subject of this thread.

omfg. Janney and Lafayette have been the exclusive province of middle-class people since their inception in ~1930. To a lesser extent, so has Murch. At no point in their histories have any of these three schools had major demographic shifts. If you don't believe this, you can educate yourself by looking at the class photos over the decades.
And PP, I grew up in Forest Hills during the 1960s - 1980s, and many of the neighborhood kids went to Murch, as did I.
I guess you are saying I am lying? Or maybe my experience was just different than yours.
No, she's saying that you're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.
