Absolutely right, and parents are fooling themselves if they think otherwise. Our local high school's lacrosse team was full of drug users, as was a family member's in another county. There are plenty of AP and IB students who also smoke pot regularly.
You know how adults can't wait to have a drink and kick back at the end of a workday? It's not different for many teens, and with the stress to be the best and brightest, why should we be surprised at the impact it has on them?
Except being on a lacrosse team is the exact opposite of being busy.

They ALL have gangs. Gangs, however are quiet, as the students are their drug clients.

I think you are referring to Blair, not BCC.
No, this was BCc. Not that Blair doesn't have issues from time to time too, but this incident was BCC.

All high schools in MC have full-time (and plentiful) security staff on top of a dedicated uniformed police officer(s) presence. I really don't think there is a whole bunch of gang banging go on during school hours.

Every single problem you listed above is "rampant" at all MoCo schools, no exceptions. FWIW, this includes Fairfax county, Howard County, Loudoun County - all these kids are high and horny all the time....just like kids were back when I was in high school so stop kidding yourself.

Yes, Blair is the largest HS in the county, and, in fact, is just a few students shy of being the largest in the entire state. It is also very diverse. But it's a perfect example of a school that's large and diverse enough to have a sufficient peer group for every type of student, including bright, AP/Honors-taking, college-bound kids, like my daughter. And, no, she's not in either of the in-house magnets. She's been at Blair for 2 1/2 years now and has never had any interaction with "gangs," though I don't doubt that gangs exist. But like I said, big place.

There is not much inventory-and I also worry about the more affluent schools being too elitist or snooty (particularly Whitman and Churchill), Wooten being a competitive "pressure cooker". Would consider BCC and WJ but again wery few options, not really wanting to cram a family of 6 into a 1,200 sq ft condo, townhome or buy a shack that is in such bad shape/supposed to be a teardown....hate this area.
They are not all "shacks." Our parents called them fixer uppers. What is your price point?
