Agree with this. I've stayed at both the rosewood mayakoba and the nearby fairmont...both are heavenly although rosewood is a bit more posh. Also, there are typically direct flights, only about 2.5-3 hrs, from dc to cancun..

Charleston. It's been on the top travel places list via Travel and Leisure the past few years so we decided to vacation there last April. AMAZING!! Stay at the French Quarter Inn. Direct flights from all area airports. Awesome food, awesome downtown. So picturesque. You won't regret it.

+1. big sur is beautiful..would stay at post ranch in with unlimited budget. Then take a scenice drive to Yountville/Napa, visit some winderies, dinner at french laundry.

If you could squeeze in five days, then I would tell you to consider London as a great city with lots to do in terms of history, great plays at half price often. A lot of folks are also going to Costa Rica now as there are different environments within the country so you might do some beach type activities with swimming, snorkeling, boating and then go to see a rain forest region or mountainous with different activities. See if there are any short tours. It is safe there, unlike Mexico City for foreigners.

Head to Belize. Easy to get there, English is the first language. The BZD trades one to one for USD.
Spent 3 days on Ambergris Caye snorkeling, diving, dining, relaxing and then use one day to charter a plane to the mainland and do the Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) tour. National Geographic named it the #1 Sacred Cave tour in the world. Highly recommended before they close it down to tourists completely.
