I don't believe in hell at all. Of all religious tenets, the concept of hell as a place is the one that should be outright rejected. There is no physical hell. It's a scare tactic and and it serves to make us fear death.
And you know that how? You've there and came back?
I know because people who were raised without fear of hell do not have this fear. It is taught to children and to adults who are "seeking" something.
No, my friend, you do not know! That is your belief, you have no proof or evidence for this. Your opinion is one in hundredths....
How do you know there's a god?
That's your belief, yes? You have no proof or evidence for this, correct? Your opinion is one in hundredths, right?
Yes, I'm pretty sure thats what she meant. There are many beliefs. She has one of those. And you have a different one. That's what faith is.
It's like a world of make-believe. some people take it straight from their "holy book." Others interpret the book as it suits them, others pick and choose among beliefs that resonate with them, calling it "Christian" when it's mainly common sense and human morality. I"m happy to see people getting away from doctrine, but I doubt churches are. They will go out of business if people devise their own morality that does not involve eternal reward or punishment.

Christians do not believe they are good. They believe they are forgiven and saved by grace.
My children are good.
I don't need a god to tell me that I'm wrong in thinking that.
My children are good and kind and loving.
BS. Children are self centered . When is the last time they gave their brand new toys to a poor kid?
What in the hell ever happened to Matthew 19:14?
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
My daughter gives away her items to her brother, who's younger, and to the thrift shop in our 'hood. My son always writes me cards in school, telling me how much he loves me.

But she is not giving her Brand New presents away to other kids so she's self centered, at least according to pp.
FWIW, I do think that God wants us to be kind and good to each other and that includes being charitable to others less fortunate. And charity is not just about money there are lots of other ways to give of yourself. Remember - we are all "less fortunate" in one way or another. It's not just about handing over $$$$ and new toys.

I don't think so. It's the final disposition of different types of souls that is always debated. The Baptist who says the Catholic is going to hell, for example.

I'm an atheist and I feel like I have a soul, but I guess I don't know exactly what a soul is. Most of my family are atheists. We all give back to our communities a lot and help people in need either through our careers or voluntarily. Does that mean we have souls and will be saved if we're wrong!!!
No. You have to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior in order to be saved and be granted access to the Kingdom of Heaven. You are a sinner, for we are all sinners. Repent.
that is fucked up, and I'm a Christian.
In what way are you a Christian, swearing like that and swearing like that while you are denying the essential tenets of Christianity?
NP, there is more than one way to be a Christian.
Uh, not really. Do tell, though.
NP but I will bite. There are lots of different interpretations of Christianity. Is that not apparent to you? Views on Christianity are about as wide as you can make them. I would say basic tenet is only that you believe that Jesus Christ was the son of god and that you basically strive to follow the teachings of Christ as best you understand them. What those teachings are is open to interpretation. I personally believe that it is just to try to be a good person, try to forgive, try to be kind. I don't take the central message as one of salvation if I believe because to me trying to be more Christ-like in ones actions is much more important that objectively expressing my beliefs or judging those that don't believe. I am supposed to love those people too.
Yes. This.

Actually, atheists are less than nothing since they waste resources and produce fecal matter. A rock is much cleaner and harmonious with the universe.
You could say the same for believers. wasting resources and producing fecal matter are characteristics of all animals, irrespective of their religious beliefs. I suppose souls in heaven don't have to worry about these things, but there's nothing in the bible about it, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see
No such a thing in heaven according to the Islamic belief. The prophet SAW said:
‘’..They will not urinate, excrete, blow their noses nor, spit. Their combs will be (made) of Gold and they will sweat musk’’ (Muslim)
The man replied ’Oh Muhammad, Where will they excrete after that (after eating/drinking)?’. The prophet SAW replied ‘They will sweat and their sweat will be musk’. (Ahmad)
Well, that settles it for Muslims, but it doesn't apply to Christians, It's my understanding that souls -- which are what goes to heaven, are entirely different from bodies and don't do need to eat or excrete. However, both Jesus and Mary ascended bodily into heaven, so I don't know that the deal is for them -- maybe the muslim way -- but you never hear anything about it
