My kids slept in the crib or co-slept. Then they moved to a queen sized bed. We never got them a toddler bed.

If she's sleeping soundly--then that would be my only consideration for the most part! Let her keep the crib if she feels best with it for now! It certainty wont last forever.

Hypocritically, I'm interested--how do you all handle middle-of-the-night 'need to go to the bathroom' situations with her, and being in a crib..? Is she still in diapers?

This kid is 10 years old now, I’m sure she’s sleeping in a bed.

The angst you are anticipating is as much/more your own as hers. This is a "problem" you created.

Where the kid sleeps is not the issue here.

She might like a weighted blanket. My kids love them. Could help with the changes.

OP, glad she finally moved to bed it was no big deal. However, you need to know thst this was completely a parenting issue. You had a responsibility of taking the crib down and moving her to a bed when she was younger. You do not have any room to complain about the fact that she was still in a crib at 5 since you did nothing about it until she was 5. Just food for thought. You and your DH need to drive the boat.

I was forced to sleep in a crib until I was 7. Definitely suffered from neglect (from a baby) which resulted in serious bladder infections, leading to even more serious kidney infections (which I had to undergo several operations) because I couldn't safely get out of the crib to attempt to get to the bathroom.

I still suffer physically at 28, despite what others say I think it is a big deal.

Mine too, almost 12 hrs.

I see nothing wrong with either scenario. As long as the child is healthy and happy, who are you to decide what is better?

Agree!

I see no problem with a child wanting to sleep in the crib as long as the crib is in no danger of collapsing or the child is not too uncomfortable.

Is the crib in another room or is it in your room? Maybe she is scared of sleeping alone in her room and will be better off if she is co sleeping with you. We had a king bed and our child slept with us for 6 years, even though she was using her room to take naps in the daytime. Then one day, she just left and moved permanently to her own room. No pressure, no drama. no asking DCUM's opinion, no calls to the pediatrician.

+1. The crib makes her feel secure.
