If you are concerned about looking poor, spend your money on an updo or blowout. Put lipstick on using a lipbrush. Use a good face powder foundation. Get your brows done.

You will look polished, and no one will care about where your dress came from.

You can get a dress that looks very expensive without spending much. Check out Columbus day sales at places like Nordstrom Rack, Macy's, and lord & Taylor. Avoid things like sequins, crochet, and beaded work bc you can spot them on cheap material easily. Instead look for long black gown that fits really and accessorize.

In a similar vein, we got something like this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/44178316/wedding-invitation-set-in-stone-6-inch?ref=related-0. Ours was a tile trivet of our wedding invitation. I doubt it was all that expensive, and we really like it a lot. It was especially meaningful to us because we had a graphic designer friend design our wedding invitations and so the design was really personally meaningful to us. But I bet a lot of people would like it.

Give what you can afford, even if it's a card. But yeah, do give a card. Some of my closest friends didn't get me shit when I got married. I couldn't care less about gifts or money, but not getting a card really hurt.

I just bought two amazing black tie dresses at Ross for $25 each. When there's a will, there's a way. Both dresses compare to my $300 black tie dresses that I own.

Just stop overthinking it and have fun!

Personally I think a tux and a black tie dress are must haves in any closet.
