There's a big difference between the lobbyist (or legislative folks) for non-profits and the big money trade lobbyist. One of them is trying to crank out persuasive one page fact sheets like a policy wonk and the other is more like a big ticket salesperson with swanky benes and campaign contributions. I think it's a pretty different career path, but I might be wrong on that.

Our lobbyists (who have other titles; this is a dirty word where I work) make between $65K - $100K each depending on their past experience and connections/capacity. I work for a nonprofit in the education sector. Our Executive Director makes less than $200K so nobody here is making the big-big bucks. We work for the mission and the flexible schedules and other typical nonprofit perks.

Hello to people wondering how to become a lobbyist:

1. Work on the local, state, and federal level in the legislatures and/or regulatory bodies.
2. Develop and industry expertise
3. A law degree helps but is not imperative
4. Get a job at a lobbying firm or trade association

I guess I can't begrudge anyone what the industry is willing to pay them. I know I would not be happy in that job, even though I wish I made more money doing what I'm actually interested in.

Why is it "pathetic" to strive for growth in your career? Limited salary growth and no partnership is frustrating after 15 years. Why is that wrong? Isn't it the American Way to strive for growth? Is anyone happy/content when their hard work and loyalty to a firm is not rewarded with increased salary and/or advancement (partnership)? The specific question of money was asking, if $750K was typical in the field or not? And, yes, it would be nice (I think most people would like to make more money) - that's why millions of people work to advance their careers. It's also why millions play the lottery. Not many people in our country are satisfied to just hangout and live with the status quo.
