You can come pee on my mailbox. I do not care. The shit you people get worked up about.

+2.

It's a mailbox. By the road. That I am at for, quite literally, 10-15 seconds/day. It gets rained on, mud thrown up from cars, snowed upon, baked in the sun, bugs sit on it and occasionally take up residence. I don't eat by the mailbox. It's not on my porch. We don't hang out by the mailbox.

Feel free to pee away on it. And while you're at it, take a long, deep breath and relax. Realize that this is not the big deal you think it is. You'll be happier.

I've had to hose down the mailbox so many times because it smells. I heard that chili powder works really well at keeping dogs out, but I'm afraid a child might get into it. Does anyone have any idea what I can use? I know they have some products on amazon, but two of my neighbors tried them all and nothing really works, so everyone is talking about the chili powder. Any feedback would be welcomed, thank you in advance!

I suggest taking a Xanax and worry about more important things.

I get that it's annoying, rude, whatever. But, you're at your mailbox, what, 30 seconds a day? You may ask yourself why you're so worked up over a small thing like this.

Walk the dog. Don’t let it walk you. Don’t take the dog to urinate and defecate. Take it for a walk. I take mine for runs, full helming no leash. Never leaves my side. Uses the side yard woods area on command. Never cleaned dog waste out of my yard. I’ve owned dogs all my life. Be a dog owner, not a person who has a dog.

I forgot what it's called, but here is the concept - it's a battery operated device, and a wire (buried in mulch in your case). When the dog or human pees on the wire device delivers mild electric shock up the stream right to the garden of good and evil. It's harmless, but very unpleasant.
Was first used on drunks that peed in the elevators (in Japan ?) and worked wonders.

I have had this same problem with people walking their dogs by my property and allowing them to pee on my mailbox and landscaping around the perimeter of my property. I spend time and money (not to mention the taxes I pay) to make my property look nice. I don't appreciate you letting your dog use it as his/her personal toilet. When I work on my landscaping, I don't want to be putting my hands into your dog's poop or pee. Why don't you curb your dog on your own property? If you see your dog stopping to do it's business on my property, give the leash a yank and train your dog not to do these things. I see too many dog owners just simply stop walking and idly watch their animal while it messes on my mailbox or landscaping. How about I come to your house and piss on your mailbox or where your kids might play? Don't want that? Now you know how I feel.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!
Exactly. This is my property - I spend money and hard work on my hands and knees in my gardens and these dog walkers come along and head for my property!!! One lady had the gall to stop me and tell me how much her dog likes my yard!!! REALLY????? Well, my yard doesn't like you! If I wanted to dig in dog pee I'd have my own dog! And the same goes for the cigarette butts!!!! GRRRRR.

Sounds like you are the one who could use a cigarette. Yikes. Namaste.

Lmao ikr?? On her hands and knees!!!

Anonymous wrote:Let's begin with the fact that I am an animal owner and lover. This conversation is about respect of other peoples property, as well as owner discipline and control over their animal.
We walk our dog multiple times a day. He does not walk on, or do his business on anybody's property. This is all about training. It is not a dog's fault, if he is allowed to pee on everything he smells. We see the affects in our own yard and the damage urine will do to grass, fencing, etc. This is not only about smell, but also about destruction. Mail boxes and the like can be destroyed by the acidity in urine. With a little training, your precious pooch will urinate where he is directed. A dog WANTS guidelines by their owner. Please stop and think that most people do not hate the animal, they just want to keep their property clean and in nice condition. A little consideration for our neighbors goes a long way.

I'm so glad someone pointed out the destructive properties of dog urine. I'm also pro-responsible dog ownership... I had a dog for nearly 11 years that recently passed. I found this thread while searching for my own solutions. The bottom of our mailbox post was destroyed by neighborhood dogs repeatedly marking/peeing on it. I replaced the mailbox and post late last summer, but fast forward 8 months, and discoloration and damage to the bottom 6-8 inches or so of our wooden mailbox post is already noticeable. Thanks for the suggestions by the earliest posters. I am not angry about the dogs that are walked daily down the sidewalk in our neighborhood, but I am looking for ways to deter them from marking, and this, destroying, my mailbox.

I looked this same question up because I have a small dog that likes to pee on the post of our covered patio. To everyone saying dog pee doesn't smell.. You are wrong. That post, that only my one small male dog pees on, rieks horribly! From 6ft away even. So this is a legitimate question. Telling someone they are unhinged for a legitimate question is ridiculous.

huh? I have a dog and he only pees in my yard. Dog pee does not smell like human pee. I've never smelled it lingering outside.
